Jose Zacarias Chavez, 20, Jonesborough, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center.Jose was born in Johnson City and a lifelong Washington County resident.He formerly attended Daniel Boone High School, and worked construction building houses.Jose played baseball growing up, and loved watching football.He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Debra Moody, and his maternal great-grandfather, James Moody.Jose is survived by his parents, Lucy and Efren Mejia, Jonesborough; his son, Dakari Chavez, and Dakari’s mother, Janae Wilson, both of Johnson City; five siblings, Daniel Moody, Briana Jimenez and husband Enrique, all of Johnson City, Damian Mejia, Jonesborough, Kayla Chavez and Joseph Chavez, both of Carter County; grandfather, Daniel Mejia, Johnson City; three uncles, David Moody, Hampton, Joaquin Gordillo and Luis Mejia, both of Johnson City; ten nieces and nephews, Enrique, Jr., Sofia, Arianna, Liliana, Alejandro, Amia, Zaelyn, Hayden, Nevaeh and Braylinn; several cousins, including Ashley Moody.The funeral service celebrating Jose’s life will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 7:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Hope Fregoso, officiating.The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.Following services Jose will be cremated. There will be a committal service at Washington County Memory Gardens at a later date.The family requests that in-lieu-of flowers, donations be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses.
