Lois Jeannine (Ferrell) Greenwell, beloved Mother, Grandmommy, and Great-Grandmommy, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2024. She was born on November 18, 1936, in Freeburn, KY, to Rebecca (Mitchell) Ferrell and J.C. Ferrell, joining older brother Bill Ferrell. She loved Jesus. And she loved her family.She attended Williamson High School in Williamson, West Virginia, and graduated in 1954. She then attended Milligan College until 1957 and studied Business Administration. While at Milligan, she met the love of her life and husband, Dennis Wade Greenwell. Lois and Dennis married in 1957.Following their wedding, they moved to Roan Mountain and began their family. Lois worked at Blackburn, Childers, and Steagall from 1968 until her retirement in 2001. After her official retirement, Lois worked part-time as the financial administrator at First Christian Church in Johnson City and tirelessly volunteered and gave to her community. As a member of The Monday Club in Johnson City since 2008, she served as Recording Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Chairman of the Communications Committee, Bylaws Committee, and more. She also served the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.First Christian Church has been her home church since 1966. As an active and vital congregation member, she has taught Sunday School in the Children’s department, was a choir member, served as leader for several Bible Studies, and coordinated the online Prayer ministry for her Sunday School class. She was also a faithful member of the FCC Knitting Club, where they knit for charity, including prayer shawls, lap robes for the sick, hats for Zimbabwe, and hats for babies in the NICU at Niswonger Children’s Hospital. As the matriarch of the Greenwell clan, she and long-time family friends, the Aldridge family, host a memorial golf tournament yearly to benefit Milligan Athletics in honor of her late husband, Dennis, and his best friend, Duard Aldridge.She is preceded in death by her soulmate, Dennis Greenwell, her loving parents, J. C. and Rebecca Ferrell, brother Bill Ferrell, and Grayson Moser (great-grandson).Left to cherish her memory and carry her bright torch are three beautiful children who were the center of her world: Brian Mitchell (wife Kim), Brenda Denise (husband Howard Petersen), Kevin Phillip (wife Sherrie); four grandchildren, Jennifer Greenwell, Sara (Kyle) Jacobson, Kaitlyn Greenwell, Kaci Greenwell, two step-grandchildren Gloria (Chris) Moser, and Geneva Kent. She is also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Charlie Hope Greenwell and Emery and Parker Jacobson, and four step-great-grandchildren, Christian Moser, Noah, Eleanor, and Charlie Kent, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Visitation will be on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at First Christian Church starting at 12:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m., with Ethan Magness and Donald Mushayamunda, Ministers, officiating. Special music by Michael Imboden and Dr. Howard Petersen. The graveside committal service to follow in Washington Memorial Gardens.
