Wilmer L. Skinner, 94, Johnson City, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his residence.He was born in Newton County, MS to the late Samuel and Minnie Lee Daniel Skinner.Wilmer was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War including the Chosin Reservoir Conflict. He was a mechanic for many years. Wilmer retired as a fleet supervisor from Rainbo Bakery after many years of dedicated service.He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newton County. Wilmer was also a member of the VFW Post 2108 in Johnson City. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, bird watching and NASCAR. In addition to his parents Wilmer was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Audry Irwin Skinner; sister, Mildred Irene Harper; brother, I.V. Skinner.Survivors include three children, Linda Skinner, Edwin “Hank” Skinner, Sheila Miller (Jonathan), all of Johnson City; five grandchildren, James Smotherman, Mandy Thomson (Tommy), Melody Cutshall (Brandon), and her mother Regenia, Adam Miller, and Madeline Potter, all of Johnson City; twelve great-grandchildren, Olivia, Spider, Dagger, Wednesday, Oren, Travis, Lana, Natalee, Delaney, Enoch, and London; niece, Peggy Skinner; and all of Audry’s family whom he considered his own.The funeral service for Wilmer will be conducted Friday, February 16, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Royston, officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be chosen from friends and family.The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
